This is one of my best memories from my time as editorial director for Refinery29. Working with Cecilia Dean and the Visionaire team to make this behind-the-scenes video of how a Dior haute couture skirt is made was a dream from start to finish.

The video’s success is in large part due to an editorial decision, if I do say so myself. We chose to tell the story of a pleated skirt—something our audience was familiar with—rather than a ballgown or an outrageously detailed coat. This made it relatable to the Refinery29 audience and still provided a look into the artistry and attention to detail that goes into an item of haute couture.
